EBONY STEELE’S Amazing Pink Journey

How the Comedienne, Dancer, Model & Co-Host of a Top-Rated Radio Show is Working to Educate Women

Ebony Steele was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.  At the time, the talented comedienne, dancer, model and entertainer had just become co-host of the Rickey Smiley Show, one of the top-rated syndicated radio shows in America.  Steele had her dream job, but she says that the news hit her hard.  She had a mastectomy and after months of chemotherapy, this brave lady found the strength to help other women facing breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One in 35 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Steele is a Susan G. Komen Circle of Promise Ambassador, a General Mills Pin Together Ambassador and she holds a unique breast cancer benefit each year in Birmingham, Al.

IMPORTANCE OF INCREASED BREAST CANCER AWARENESS FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN

One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetimes. A higher percentage of African American women die from breast cancer each year because they are failing to get the help necessary to save their life.

WHAT ARE WAYS PEOPLE CAN SHOW SUPPORT

I hold my own benefit in Birmingham each year, and I’m a big supporter of the “race for a cure” campaign.  But, I am amazed at how many companies are helping to fight against cancer and to find a cure.  There are so many things that you can buy that are pink for the cause. Who doesn’t like shopping and helping a good cause at the same time.
